For 35 years, Greek Fest has entertained Lee County with a glorious display of sights, sounds and tastes of Greece. Families enjoyed the food, the gifts, colorful dancers, and authentic Greek music, curiosity or just plain delight! Fort Myers Bell Tower Shops, United Way, Fashion Show

Last evening at the Bell Tower Shops in Fort Myers was a fashion show for the United Way. The event was a huge success as people enjoyed music, models and food! The Fort Myers shops changed completely into a amazing run way in the middle  of the walk way while over one hundred people were there to support a good cause.

Cypress Lake Country Club, 50th Anniversary, Fort Myers Golfing

Cypress Lake Country Club, the second oldest club in Fort Myers, just celebrated 50 years in Southwest Florida. Founded by some of golf’s greats like Patty Berg and Gene Sarazan, the club has been and continues to be host to numerous golf pros. The course and club opened for play on February 22, 1961 with just nine holes, but by July 1962 all eighteen holes were open. In 1966 it was declared fully playable and named among the 200 toughest courses in the United States by Golf Digest. Just six short years later, it became fully private in May 1972. Fast forward a bit and in 2001, Ron Garl, the creative and prolific course architect oversaw the renovation of the course. Maximizing the unique characteristics of the natural landscape and course, Garl’s work truly reflected the original style Wilson employed when constructing it. Legends once walked the course which was designed in 1959 by Dick Wilson. Originally in the outskirts of town, the golf course is now considered conveniently located, in South Fort Myers, drawing members from all over Southwest Florida and beyond, with members from 29 states.

Inaugural Piper 5K, Fort Myers Benefit, The Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida

This weekend was the inaugural Piper 5K in honor of three-year old Piper Buckley. The 5k was a huge success, around 800 runners showed up at the Gateway Community. The event started off with the runners and then the walkers and strollers. After the 5k, people enjoyed live music, food and awards! The proceeds went to benefit the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at The Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida. The race honored the life and spirit of Piper Lynne Buckley who was born on Oct. 21, 2006 weighing only 3.9 lbs and spent 21 days in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at The Children’s Hospital. Piper passed away unexpectedly in her sleep on Christmas Day of 2009 at only three years of age. Piper was the daughter of Realtor and former Florida Everblades star Tom Buckley and Mallie Montgomery retail store owner Heather Holland, both of Fort Myers. Piper served as The Boston Red Sox Children’s Hospital Celebrity Classic’s MVP (Most Valuable Patient) in 2008 which also supported the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Edison Light Festival, BED RACE, Downtown Fort Myers

Looking for something new to do this weekend? Go to downtown Fort Myers for the Edison Light Festival events on Sunday the 14th. There are going to be a lot of  fun activities like junior run for the kids and a junior parade. After that though, around 5pm, there is going to be a BED RACE! Teams have designed beds with wheels and will be racing them in downtown Fort Myers! It is going to be a blast!!! The 5th Annual Pug Fest, Bell Tower Shops, Fort Myers

Our camera man was at The 5th Annual Pug Fest yesterday at the Bell Tower Shops! What a great Sunday, people and pets had a blast! There was an auction for treat baskets, pet photography, grooming certificates and jewelry. The Annual Pug Fest featured a fashion show, a costume contest as well as prizes for the winners. It was to nice to spend the day inside the office, so I used the afternoon to take some outdoor photos. The first place that came to mind was Fort Myers Beach, it was sunny, warm and people were all around. I think the biggest perk of living in Fort Myers is being so close to the beach, it is so nice when you only have to drive a couple minutes to get to the white sands of Southwest Florida! - Max Soto.

This was truly the place to be on Sunday! Plenty of live performances including Jousting, Sword Fighting, and acrobatics kept all of the audience members entertained! Ride For Randall, End Childhood Cancer, Fort Myers Benefit

2^ND ANNUAL “RIDE FOR RANDALL” RAISING MONEY TO END CHILDHOOD CANCER

Childhood for Randall Nychyk, Jr. has not been the same as most children’s. He has undergone 70 weeks of chemotherapy and many hours and days in and out of hospitals to stop his brain tumor from growing. He’s 6 years old and his ordeal started just after his 3^rd birthday. Next month, will bring the 2^nd Annual Ride for Randall Poker Run. Its sole purpose is to raise money for the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Unite at the Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida where he’s spent so much time.

Sanibel beach was the place to witness the Last Year Annual Sanibel National Polar Bear Club Swim. Hundreds of people, or as they call them mice, came out to watch, while 229 bears had the courage to take the plunge (by the way, it was 79 degrees today). At least they didnt have to cut through any ice to enjoy a dip in our tropical waters.

But this year at Tarpon Bay Beach, we are going to make it bigger! Get ready to drive over to Sanibel, Jan. 1st for the 10th Annual Sanibel National Polar Bear Club Plunge! The event takes place at noon but be sure to get there early!!! Click here to see more photos of last years plunge!

Last night was the famous Yappy Hour at the Bell Tower Shops in Fort Myers. People and their dogs came out to celebrate the holidays together. Santa was there taking photos with owners and dogs, everyone had a great time as usual! There were drinks and special pet treats, music was by Southwest Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra. Proceeds benefit Gulf Coast Humane Society. Click below to see all the photos we took!

The First Annual Chix-N-Stix Ladies Fishing Tournament, Fort Myers Fishing

Last night was a BLAST! The first annual Chix-N-Stix Fishing Tournament held their Anglers meeting at Fish-Tale Marina, who did an AMAZING job, especially given the weather! Kristi Riley and Lacey Rush did a FANTASITIC job putting this huge event together! There was a live and silent auction to benefit Operation Open Arms (supporting our troops www.operationopenarms.net) items included, vacation packages, fishing charters, jewelry, art, fishing equipment, baskets and more! Thank you to Bahama Breeze for the great food and an open bar! Below is just a taste of what it was like there last night, a video and more photos to come on Monday! Everyone get ready for today! Fort Myers, The First Annual Chix-N-Stix Ladies Fishing Tournament

The first event of this caliber for ladies in the fishing industry! Chix-N-Stix is taking over Southwest Florida on December 4th and 5th, 2009 on Fort Myers Beach, FL. With the cash and prize payout reaching over $5,000 and an entry fee of $100 for the ladies and $50 for the men there is no excuse not to come out and be a part of this huge event! The species of fish (ladyfish) has been kept fun to keep the pressure low; and there will be a couple of mystery fish categories, a youth division and a winner for the largest ladyfish.

Harley Davidson, Bikers for Babies, March of Dimes

Harley-Davidson/Buell of Fort Myers is excited to announce they will be hosting the annual Bikers for Babies events, benefiting the March of Dimes. Events will take place Friday through Sunday, October 30th to November 1st.

The weekend will kick off with Hog-O-Ween on Friday from 6:00 until 10:00 p.m. There will be costume contest and live entertainment by Boss Hawg and Backlash. Participants can also pre-register for the Bikers for Babies ride at that time.

Friday nights Yappy Hour was another great event at the Fort Myers, Bell Tower Shops. Amy Fletcher of the Bell Tower Shops did a fantastic job with the Yappy Hour event at Center Court. Downtown Fort Myers Bike Ride. If you were driving around Fort Myers last night, you may have noticed a huge group of cyclists riding from Page Field to Downtown Fort Myers. It is good to see that bike riding is becoming ever so popular. Trying to ride at 30 mph to take a picture is a difficult task, especially when we are not in as good shape. So, we had one of the riders stop, so we could take the photo!

The Search for the Skunk Ape a.k.a Big Foot. We at the Fort Myers Daily, talked with business owner and amateur cryptozoologist, Brian Podlasek about his history of field investigations of this mystical creature. Brian has been looking for big foot in Montana and all around the globe. He believes, as the cold weather approaches, the big foot will begin it’s migration south to the warm weather of wetlands of Fort Myers. It’s speculated that Southwest FL, is the breading grounds for these creatures. According to his research, the big foot should be on it’s long travel down south. Above, Brian found Chewbacca at a bar stop, believed to be a the descendant of Big Foot. Click below to see more pictures of Brian and his colleagues on their last research expedition. Captain Mic from New Moon Sailing took us at the Daily around the water ways for the afternoon. The breeze was nice and the sun was out, it was the perfect Sunday in Fort Myers. 7th “Fish for Fund” Cape Coral Fishing Tournament, Cape Coral Police Athletic League. Yesterday was the Captain’s meeting at Twisted Conch in Cape Coral for the 7th “Fish for Fund” Tournament. The “Fish for Fund” Tournament is a catch and release competition to benefit the Cape Coral Police Athletic League.
