Wanna compete in one of the best Fishing Tournaments? McFlat’s Invitational is this Weekend!

Entertainment, Fishing, Fort Myers, Non Profit / Charity, Outdoor Activities

Wanna compete in one of the best Fishing Tournaments? McFlat’s Invitational is this Weekend!

Boats in the water at 7:30 for a shotgun start. Also, while the anglers are in the water feel free to invite the rest of your family & friends to come on over for the Ronald McDonald kids Fishing tournament and Ronald McDonald luncheon from 10:00am-12:00pm at Tarpon Point Marina. Kids will have the opportunity to have lunch with Ronald McDonald as well as the opportunity to win great prizes; surely a must do event for all the Florida kids who love to fish or would love to learn how.

The weigh-in will close at 4:00pm giving everyone the opportunity to take some time to get their boats cleaned up and meet back at the Hope Ball Room in the marina area of Tarpon Point Marina.

The awards dinner & auction will begin at 6:30. This isn’t your average awards banquet either; it will include an upscale dinner, open bar and music. So we are pleased to invite you to this 6th annual event that will prove to be an event you will be sure to schedule into your calendar for years to come.

“You can’t go wrong when you invite Florida anglers out to an event that will be great time as well as an event that will help those who truly need it; our children. Thank you so much for your sponsorship, your participation and your continued support of the Ronald McDonald House of Southwest Florida; anything you can do to help is sincerely appreciated.”

Sincerely,
Your 2010 McFlats Inviational Co-Chairs

11th Annual Independence Day Fireworks Celebration, Fort Myers

Miromar Outlets is expecting greater than normal attendance at the 11th Annual Independence Day Fireworks Celebration on Saturday, July 3rd presented by Miromar Outlets and Germain Arena.   This year, organizers are anticipating an even higher turnout, in part, because of the cancellation of some of the other large fireworks displays in Southwest Florida.

At 5p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Southern Extreme Water-Ski Team will perform on the lake between Miromar Outlets and Germain Arena.  At 5:30 p.m. live music will be performed by the GEEK SKWAD, a high energy rock band.   The entertainment will continue into the evening.   The fireworks show will take place over the lake beginning at dusk.  Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets.  Coolers and personal fireworks are not permitted.  Restaurants in Miromar Outlets prepare weeks in advance for the volume of food sales during the Independence Day Celebration.  The full compliment of restaurants will be open during the celebration.  Additional parking for the fireworks is available at Germain Arena after 5 p.m.

Update on the Deep Horizon Florida Oil Spill. What is happening to Fort Myers because of the BP Oil Spill? Our Beaches are still Beautiful and our water is Clean! Great time for a Vacation!

Yesterday, we talked to Lee County Florida District 4 Commissioner, Tammy Hall. We were extremely happy to hear what she had to say! Although the Deep Horizon Florida Oil Spill has harmed a lot of things, Sanibel and Captiva are still SAFE! We learned that our water is clean and our beaches are still beautiful and this is actually a great time to visit Fort Myers. Check out our backyard and enjoy a wonderful SWFL Vacation!

Tamara Pigott, Executive Director of the Lee County Visitor & Convention Bureau also talked to us on camera to express what a great time it is to take a vacation in our unspoiled waters of SWFL. Not only are the beaches in Fort Myers OIL FREE, there are lots of other great reasons to visit! There are great deals on accommodations, shopping, restaurants and services. If you are thinking about visiting SWFL, now is the time to do it! Watch the video and see for yourself! Once you do that, explore our site more and start planning your next PERFECT vacation!

The team to beat

Cypress Lake Country Club, 50th Anniversary, Fort Myers Golfing

about to start to playing

Cypress Lake Country Club, the second oldest club in Fort Myers, just celebrated 50 years in Southwest Florida. Founded by some of golf’s greats like Patty Berg and Gene Sarazan, the club has been and continues to be host to numerous golf pros. The course and club opened for play on February 22, 1961 with just nine holes, but by July 1962 all eighteen holes were open. In 1966 it was declared fully playable and named among the 200 toughest courses in the United States by Golf Digest. Just six short years later, it became fully private in May 1972. Fast forward a bit and in 2001, Ron Garl, the creative and prolific course architect oversaw the renovation of the course. Maximizing the unique characteristics of the natural landscape and course, Garl’s work truly reflected the original style Wilson employed when constructing it. Legends once walked the course which was designed in 1959 by Dick Wilson. Originally in the outskirts of town, the golf course is now considered conveniently located, in South Fort Myers, drawing members from all over Southwest Florida and beyond, with members from 29 states.

Ride For Randall, End Childhood Cancer, Fort Myers Benefit

2ND ANNUAL “RIDE FOR RANDALL” RAISING MONEY TO END CHILDHOOD CANCER

Childhood for Randall Nychyk, Jr. has not been the same as most children’s. He has undergone 70 weeks of chemotherapy and many hours and days in and out of hospitals to stop his brain tumor from growing. He’s 6 years old and his ordeal started just after his 3rd birthday. Next month, will bring the 2nd Annual Ride for Randall Poker Run. Its sole purpose is to raise money for the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Unite at the Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida where he’s spent so much time.

National Polar Bear Club Swim!!!!

Beaches, Entertainment, Fort Myers, Outdoor Activities

Sanibel beach was the place to witness the Last Year Annual Sanibel National Polar Bear Club Swim. Hundreds of people, or as they call them mice, came out to watch, while 229 bears had the courage to take the plunge (by the way, it was 79 degrees today). At least they didnt have to cut through any ice to enjoy a dip in our tropical waters.dsc01468-466x350

But this year at Tarpon Bay Beach, we are going to make it bigger! Get ready to drive over to Sanibel, Jan. 1st for the 10th Annual Sanibel National Polar Bear Club Plunge! The event takes place at noon but be sure to get there early!!! Click here to see more photos of last years plunge!
