Sun Harvest Citrus, Ortaniques and a great Recipe, Florida Citrus

This orange is one of a kind in many ways; they are incredibly sweet and full of juice. You can section them, you can squeeze or slice them-any way you cut them, they will be delicious. Ortaniques are slightly flattened and look a bit like a big tangerine with a bumpy but tight-fitting skin. The Ortaniques is a natural mutant, a cross between a Valencia orange and a tangerine. According to Jamaican folklore, it developed with the help of a pair of lovebirds-one living in an orange tree, the other in a tangerine tree. Order yours today and then copy this recipe below! They will be available in March and will be going very fast, so place your order ASAP!

Here’s our favorite Ortaniques recipe.

Ingredients

  • 2 limes, halved then scored
  • 16 to 22 Cuban mint or spearmint leaves, halved
  • 3 to 4 ounces simple syrup
  • 8 to 12 ounces light rum
  • 4 splashes soda water
  • 4 sugar cane sticks, optional

Directions

In each glass, combine 1/2 lime, 4 to 6 mint leaves and 3/4 to 1 ounce simple syrup and crush. Add ice to fill each glass, then add the 2 to 3 ounces of rum to each glass, and shake well. Add a splash of soda water and garnish with a sugar cane stick.
