The 1st annual Classic Rock Cares Golf Tournament and Concert/Dinner, Fort Myers Fundraiser
Fort Myers Fundraiser, The 1st annual Classic Rock Cares Golf Tournament and Concert/Dinner is a fund raising effort by the John Entwistle Foundation aimed at expanding its music therapy rooms. Upgrades for The Cliff Williams Room at our own Health Park in Ft Myers and The Brian Johnson room in Sarasota Memorial Hospital are planned following this current fund raising effort.
The 2 rooms mentioned were named for the bassist and singer of the rock group AC/DC which is currently on a world tour. Johnson and Williams along with drummer/producer Steve Luongo toured in 2007 to raise funds for the children’s music therapy rooms which opened in 2008. The event took place on Friday and Saturday October 3rd at The Forest Country Club. Friday evening will be the dinner/concert in the Forest clubhouse. It begin with a buffet dinner and viewing of the auction items for both the “live” and “silent” auctions to be held at night. The auction items will include rare investment grade memorabilia from decades of rock & roll, sports and movie stars. Also on display was John Entwistle’s one of a kind prototype graphite Buzzard Bass built from his own original design and valued at $500,000.00. The evening conclude with a private concert. The music was provided by the foundation’s executive director and Forest member Steve Luongo.
Steve is an internationally known drummer/producer who has performed, produced or recorded with some of the biggest names in the music business. Steve’s live performances are usually seen in arenas and other large venues around the world. However, this particular weekend will see Steve along with guitar phenomenon Mark Hitt and bassist extraordinaire Larry Hobbs performing for an intimate crowd at the clubhouse. The trio will perform classic rock hits from Cream, Led Zeppelin, The Who, AC/DC and others. Luongo and company have history with all of these artists and the set list will reflect those connections.
