Fort Myers 2010 Art Fest, Downtown Fort Myers, Fort Myers Attractions

This weekend was the 2010 Fort Myers Art Fest located downtown Fort Myers. The Fort Myers Attraction brought in over 400 artist booths from all around the world. The historic district of Fort Myers was filled with art and art lovers. Sculptors, paintings and photography was just part of what was shown and offered in this Southwest Florida event. Our photographer, Cameron Michael was out taking photos of his own so those who could not make it out downtown. Besides the art there were a variety events for kids and adults. The Inaugural Piper 5K, Newly Established Piper Lynn Buckley Foundation

The inaugural Piper 5K in honor of three-year old Piper Buckley will take place at the Gateway Community on Saturday, Feb. 13, at 9 a.m with proceeds to benefit the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at The Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida.

The race will honor the life and spirit of Piper Lynne Buckley who was born on Oct. 21, 2006 weighing only 3.9 lbs and spent 21 days in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at The Children’s Hospital. Piper passed away unexpectedly in her sleep on Christmas Day of 2009 at only three years of age. Piper was the daughter of Realtor and former Florida Everblades star Tom Buckley and Mallie Montgomery retail store owner Heather Holland, both of Fort Myers. Piper served as The Boston Red Sox Children’s Hospital Celebrity Classic’s MVP (Most Valuable Patient) in 2008 which also supported the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

American Lung Association, Launches First Local Stairclimb Event, Fort Myers Fundraising

Following the lead of chapters around the country, the Gulfcoast Chapter of the American Lung Association has replaced its annual 5K walk with the first ever “stairclimb” in Southwest Florida. Registration is underway for the 2010 Fight for Air Climb, scheduled for May 1 at the High Point Place, 2104 West First St. in Fort Myers.

During stairclimbs, participants raise money by collecting pledges to ascend the stairway in a high-rise tower. High Point Place, the tallest building between Tampa and Miami, is donating access to one of its towers for the Fight For Air Climb, and Lee Memorial Hospital is the presenting sponsor.

“We are so excited to bring a stairclimb to Fort Myers and are thrilled with the initial enthusiasm from volunteers and participants registered to climb,” said Kurt Goerke, regional director of the Gulfcoast Chapter of the American Lung Association. “We have groups already training for the stairclimb, and we believe the event will not only be a fundraising success, but will be a lot of fun for our climbers.”

The 5th Annual Pug Fest, Bell Tower Shops, Fort Myers

Our camera man was at The 5th Annual Pug Fest yesterday at the Bell Tower Shops! What a great Sunday, people and pets had a blast! There was an auction for treat baskets, pet photography, grooming certificates and jewelry. The Annual Pug Fest featured a fashion show, a costume contest as well as prizes for the winners. Outdoors on Fort Myers Beach, Fort Myers FL

It was to nice to spend the day inside the office, so I used the afternoon to take some outdoor photos. The first place that came to mind was Fort Myers Beach, it was sunny, warm and people were all around. I think the biggest perk of living in Fort Myers is being so close to the beach, it is so nice when you only have to drive a couple minutes to get to the white sands of Southwest Florida! - Max Soto.

Cattle Barons Ball for the American Cancer Society, Bell Tower Shops, Fort Myers

The Bell Tower Shops at Cleveland & Daniels Fort Myers, hosted the Cattle Barons Ball for the American Cancer Society. Money raised went directly to support local cancer programs and fund cancer research. Local cancer programs include a children’s camp, scholarships, pediatric research, transportation to treatments, and other programs throughout the year. The night was great, everyone seemed to be in the charitable spirit as people enjoyed a western atmosphere. Cowboy and cowgirls had no problem dressing the part for this great cause. The Bell Tower Shops, was transformed into a high-end rodeo as people were doing their heel-to-toe dance moves for the American Cancer Society. Photography was done by Cameron Michael.

On January 23, from 6:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m at the Bell Tower Shops Cleveland & Daniels Fort Myers, the Bell Tower Shops are hosting the Cattle Barons Ball for the American Cancer Society. Money raised goes directly to support local cancer programs and fund cancer research. Local cancer programs include a children’s camp, scholarships, pediatric research, transportation to treatments, and other programs throughout the year. Tables of eight are $3,000. The Cunningham household held a Fundraiser for the Heights Foundation. Local Fort Myers residents got together to raise money and awareness for the Heights Foundation. Haiti Earthquake Relief, Fort Myers Charity and Non Profit, How To Donate

On Tuesday, a catastrophic earthquake struck near Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The full extent of the damage is still being assessed, but the death toll — already in the thousands — is climbing fast. This is the worst earthquake to hit the area in more than 200 years. Entire communities have been ripped apart and as many as 3 million people have been directly affected, including tens of thousands of American citizens who are in Haiti. Our neighbors in Haiti are racing to confront the enormous devastation — and the OFA community can help.

Harry Chapin Food Bank, Hunger Walk in Fort Myers

Later this month, on January 23rd, there is going to be a hunger walk for the Harry Chapin Food Bank. After asking around, a lot of people don’t really understand the important role of the Food Bank here in Fort Myers. The Harry Chapin Food Bank not only helps local families fight hunger but also families in Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry counties. Ride For Randall, End Childhood Cancer, Fort Myers Benefit

2^ND ANNUAL “RIDE FOR RANDALL” RAISING MONEY TO END CHILDHOOD CANCER

Childhood for Randall Nychyk, Jr. has not been the same as most children’s. He has undergone 70 weeks of chemotherapy and many hours and days in and out of hospitals to stop his brain tumor from growing. He’s 6 years old and his ordeal started just after his 3^rd birthday. Next month, will bring the 2^nd Annual Ride for Randall Poker Run. Its sole purpose is to raise money for the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Unite at the Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida where he’s spent so much time.

Fort Myers Beach Photos

The other day we got a couple great shots of some Fort Myers children playing at the beach. Once a couple of seagulls came around, the kids kept getting more to fallow! After a couple of minutes, the beach started to look like a scene from the old Film “Birds” because they were everywhere. Though the birds were very friendly we recommend not to feed any wild animal. But it sure was fun taking the photos of the situation.

Last night we stopped by the Fort Myers Crowne Plaza to take some photos of people enjoying the New Years Eve Party that was held in the Ballroom. Everyone was having a GREAT time! The music was 70’s, the drinks were flowing and the rooms were available for everyone at a great price!
