MADE HISTORY! Genae Girard plaintiff in DNA case praises Supreme Court’s ruling: Genae Girard, of Lago Vista 43, was one of six patients who sued Myriad Genetics, DID IT! I could not be more proud. As one of my family members. She took a horrible situation and really did something that turned history. CONGRATS GENAE GIRARD, YOU DID IT! I, Sandy Kostick, the Kostick Family, the Girard Family, the Hundley Family and so many more could not be more proud. As one of my family members. She took a horrible situation and really did something that turned into history. CONGRATS GENAE GIRARD!

In speaking with Genae Girard, it was so incredibly powerful to hear her excitement and yet exhaustion after over 31 interviews in just one day, with many more to come. Wow! And obviously for one heck of a darn good reason. You don’t hit 60 min, land the cover of the NY TIMES, etc. for no reason.  She made history! Young, strong and a powerful lady. This story made news all over the world. This is very exciting for all. Please check out her social media site: http://www.BeyondtheBoobieTrap.com and check out her book, http://offtherackbook.com/“. And her new book on the way. She is now and has been intensely studying with other scientists globally. (YOU GO GIRL!)  (AND THIS IS NOT JUST FOR WOMEN, MEN ARE AFFECTED TOO)

Genae Girard of Lago Vista said she was ecstatic Thursday morning to hear that the U.S. Supreme Court had ruled that a company cannot own a person’s DNA.

Girard, 43, was one of six patients who sued Myriad Genetics of Salt Lake City over the company’s patenting of two gene mutation tests associated with breast and ovarian cancer. The Supreme Court said that company can’t own naturally occurring genes but can patent synthetic strands of DNA that it creates in a laboratory.

“Woo-woo,” Girard said, when contacted at her home. “It changes history,” she said. “It kind of closes the door on other companies being able to patent genes in the body.”

The high court’s unanimous judgment reverses three decades of patent awards by government officials. It throws out patents held by Myriad Genetics on an increasingly popular breast cancer test brought into the public eye recently by actress Angelina Jolie’s revelation that she had a double mastectomy because of one of the genes involved in this case.

Myriad developed tests on the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes that are associated with breast and ovarian cancer and charged around $3,500 for the test, Girard said. She wanted a second opinion after being diagnosed with breast cancer at 36 and testing positive for the BRCA2 gene mutation. But she couldn’t get a second opinion because of the company’s patent, she said.

Girard ultimately had her ovaries and both breasts surgically removed.

“You make health care decisions based on that test,” she said. “It’s a major life changing experience, especially when you are in your 30s and at childbearing age.”

She believes the cost of the test will fall dramatically and that more women will now have access to it. The Supreme Court’s decision “opens the way to more research and reduces our costs,” she said.

MADE HISTORY! Genae Girard plaintiff in DNA case praises Supreme Court’s ruling: Genae Girard, 43, was one of six patients who sued Myriad Genetics. YOU DID IT! I could not be more proud. As one of my family members. She took a horrible situation and really did something that turned history. CONGRATS GENAE GIRARD! I know you personally and know just how hard you worked to make this happen. You have helped mankind in many ways. Thank you is not even enough. :)

DID YOU KNOW?

We can help your business in many ways. Here are just a few reasons:

Do you have a website? Do you have a blog? Are you attached to all Social Media?  Did you know 400 countries and over 368 social networks are attached to our sites? Many try to do this all themselves, rather than focusing on your own business. We do not own a restaurant, a real estate agency, a retail store, etc. We focus on what we are good at. Shouldn’t you? Think about this for a moment:

What if we switched business’s for a day. Could we run yours? Can you run ours? The answer is obvious. NO!  If you have time to do all we offer, you’re not focusing your energy in the right area. Many try to do it themselves. They get off to a great running start and fizzle out. That is why we are so very important to you. The Internet is POWERFUL. Your looking at it right now! Imagine if more people were looking at your business.Ask yourself this:  Do you really have the time and knowledge to do all necessary to accomplish the goals of all this? If you do, your business is not as successful as it could or should be. FACT.

WHAT WE OFFER:

SanibelCaptivaDaily.com was launched in 2008 to promote local business and events. Being extremely successful in that short amount of time, we were forced to open up the FortMyersdaily.com;  and the FortMyersBeachDaily.com with other communities on the horizon.

Our statistics are sound, as they originate in Google’s analytics, greatly effective web-based tools and state-of-the-art diagnostic tools. With our experience and know-how, we can track factual statistics and data about our company’s effectiveness as well as our clients. Our capabilities allow us to monitor visitors to our site and your postings in order to gear your message to your viewer’s desires. This optimizes your exposure to your specified target audience.

Our powerful “add this” button provides the option for the visitor to push the posting onto any of the social networks that they are involved with; launching it out to the world of web.

Unlike other traditional advertising, we average over 500,000 page views or ‘visits which are more beneficial –as opposed to ‘hits’ on a web site. A ‘hit’ would be the same as someone window shopping your business; where as a ‘visit’ equates to a customer actually entering your store to look around.

When we first started, we were all about direct traffic, meaning 100% of the people would have to type in for examplewww.sanibelcaptivadaily.com because we were so fresh.

Today, with our tremendous growth spurt our numbers changed, 48% are coming to us via search engines, 28% coming to us via referring sites, and now 35 % are direct traffic.

We have accomplished this by utilizing Key Words and SEO in addition to websites throughout the world pulling our feeds and putting them on their own sites, an extremely powerful concept. We are also attached to 8 blog directories and over 368 social networks. In addition to that, our site is seen in every state and well over 400 countries. Each time we do a posting on a client; we “Key Word” and optimize our clients business. The more postings we do, the more powerful their business will become.

With all of this in mind, we literally have the power to catapult you like no other out to the world of Google.

Placing an ad on the Daily.com provides incredible results, a great click-through rate is 10%, and our clients average 50% to 99% depending on their positioning. The reason is our limited advertising space, we do this to ensure our clients are seen and not lost. In addition, we have learned, it is not only the ad but the POWER OF THE POSTING.

Our site has 8 pages and every time someone visits; they average clicking on at least 4 pages, and, they spend about 2.5 minutes on the site. Every day 52% of our visits are by first time viewers. Statistics show that over 80% of those new visitors become daily users.

People can’t miss us when we are working in the field. We are dressed from head to toe in our powerful colors: pink and green, branding and logo. When we are out taking photos, we hand out our signature Daily.com cards to every person we photograph. Our cards are so powerful that people like to hold on to them as if they were credit cards. The cards clearly state, where the photo will be seen within 24 to 48 hours.

Along with our packaging options, we offer a great number of extras to help your business succeed and give you the advantage in the competitive world of on-line marketing.

  • Video Production:  A video can be utilized for your company’s web site, online marketing, and television.
  • High Resolution Photography:  With High Resolution photos, you have the capability to use them for graphic designs, brochures, and large needed formats. Not only can we take your photos on land, we have the resources to take professional underwater and aerial photography.
  • News Release: Creating a document customized for your target audience, locally, nationally or international by distributing them to the proper channels.
  • Web Design:  It is extremely important to have a well-known presence on the web which the Daily.com can accommodate. We have the capability to design and create your online personality while optimizing it to full potential, with the best developers around.
  • Social Media Workshop: As we have learned over the years, this will enhance your business as we work together to catapult you into the world of web. We enjoy training our clients how to do things for themselves when it comes to the ever-changing art of technology.
  • Social Media Maintenance: You as a business owner may not have the time readily available to maintain your own social media presence. We offer services where we maintain your accounts/pages for you to free up more time within your daily responsibilities.

And much, much more such as:

  • Mobile SMS Text Package
  • Event planning
  • Q R codes

Just to name a few….It is ever-changing daily.

If your business is not keeping up with the ever-changing trends of online media and you’re not using any if not all of the above, statistics show your competitors who are, already have an extremely substantial advantage.

We look forward to working with you and helping you grow your business through this fast and ever-changing world of technology.

Marine Lance Cpl. Christian Brown, a disabled veteran, was wheeled down to the last row of the airplane and bumped up against aisle seats after he had assumed he would board toward the front. He was embarrassed to tears, the Washington Post reports. What’s more, when two first-class passengers on a Delta airlines flight saw Brown, who lost both his legs after stepping on an explosive device in Afghanistan, suffer a humiliating boarding process, they offered to switch seats with him — a gesture that was refused by the flight attendant, retired Army Lt. Col. Keith Gafford told the Washington Post. “[He] was obviously humiliated by being paraded through the aircraft and was visibly upset,” Retired Army Col. Nickey Knighton, a fellow passenger on the Atlanta to Washington flight wrote in a complaint, obtained by the Washington Post. “I touched Brown on his shoulders and asked if he was okay. Tears ran down his face, but he did not cry out loud.” To make matters worse, Brown was battling a high fever, and was heading to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., according to the Post. Delta issued a statement indicating they were investigating the incident, the news outlet reports. Sadly this isn’t the first time airlines have allegedly mistreated veterans. Last month, former Marine Sgt. Joseph Smith filed a lawsuit against United Airlines and airport workers at Chicago O’Hare International airport alleging that airline workers tipped over his wheelchair while boarding a plane, which caused his catheter bag to spill and left him to soak in his own urine on the flight, CBS Chicago reports. The incident happened two year ago, according to the Post. In July, Jim Stanek, a three-tour Iraq veteran said United Airlines employees kicked his service dog, Sarge, and asked him if he was retarded, the Daily Mail reports. He later posted a YouTube video describing the episode. Stanek, who has a brain injury and post-traumatic stress disorder, says the incident has inspired him to reach out to others who have been mistreated by United Airlines staff and also to raise awareness for PTSD and traumatic brain injuries, according to the Daily Mail. We are so honored to have spent a great day with  LEE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE K-9 UNIT,FORT MYERS, FLORIDA TRAINING CENTER

Deputy Reed, Deputy Thorpe, Sgt. Glover and Deputy Lopez

Thanks to Sheriff Mike Scott, Lieutenant Larry King and Head K-9 Trainer Sgt. Frank Glover and all the staff of LEE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE K-9 UNIT

Meeting with the team of Sergeants and Deputies, we learned a lot of what they do to teach, train and keep these amazing dogs in great condition in many ways.

First Sgt. Glover, trainer finds them and runs them through a serious of tests to see if they are capable to handle the job at task. And it is a big one.

The dogs, save lives, find drugs and sometimes sadly get hurt in the line of duty, as they are many times the first to go in…….However, the dogs appear to be sweet, kind and loving not to mention beautiful. And they are, but…………beware! They know when it’s working time and they don’t mess around at all. Trust us; we got a taste of them. Strong and Smart!

The dogs at  LEE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE K-9 UNIT,FORT MYERS, FLORIDA TRAINING CENTER range from 2 years old in training to 12 years depending on the ability level and health. Speaking of health, these dogs are taken very good care of. With a special diet and vet to check them frequently. With a ton of love.

They are very in shape. They really seem to love their job and it almost looks like they are having fun at training, but they are really working. They enjoy it.

“They basically play a game of hide and seek; the dogs are very valuable to us as we use them to locate all kinds of things. Humans, narcotics etc.. Our dogs are partners and as they saying goes…..a little bit different: Sheriffs best friend” States Sgt. Frank Glover.

What we found so interesting is these dogs go home with these men and women who then are family dogs. Just like most of us have. When the special collar comes out and they get in the work vehicles they know, it’s work time. Really amazing.

I hope these pictures can give you an idea of just how hard they all work and why. To be able to cover this was a wonderful experience and one we will not ever forget. Kevin even took one for the team and tried on one of the tools they use called the bite bar sleeve.

They also have a full bite suit. A bit much for us, we thought, let’s allow the pros to handle that……..lol. I hope you enjoy this as much as we did and please respect your animals.

Thank you so much to the Lee County Sheriff’s Department for the wonderful experience to show us and people everywhere what goes on behind the scenes of a working K-9. Below: see Sgt. Janke and his dog: Kaos , This is Deputy Thorpe with his dog: Jager, This is Deputy Reed with his dog: Zeus, And of course Deputy Lopez with his narcotic dog in training: Raider the Lab. Nicole Glover won the Do The Right Thing in March because she decided she wanted to help someone in need around Christmas.  She collected change and any money she got and filled a jar with it.  She then took the jar to her guidance counselor and asked her to pick a family to receive the jar to buy Christmas presents.     I t was not a lot of money but every little bit helps.

This is Nicoles 3rd time winning DoThe Right Thing always to help someone else or animals.  She is currently in the People to People Ambassador program and trying to raise the money for her trip this summer to England but after that I am sure she will be back to helping others.  Nicole would appreciate any help she can get at Nemomoon@aol.com or 239-849-0198

FORT MYERS FLORIDA, CAPTIVA ISLAND FLORIDA, SANIBEL ISLAND FLORIDA: THOMAS C. REED BURNSED

Fort Myers, Health

FORT MYERS FLORIDA,  CAPTIVA ISLAND FLORIDA, SANIBEL ISLAND FLORIDA: THOMAS C. REED BURNSED

THIS LETTER CAME TO ME FROM
AMY BURNSED MCKAY:

Sandy,

Tommy was born in Battle Creek, Michigan June 26, 1949. We don’t know a lot about his early life. We do know that at some point after his birth parents died Tommy moved to Florida to live with his niece. That is when my parents, Jim and Dall Burnsed, met him. This would have been around 1975 and Tommy was probably 25 years old. We lived in a rural area east of Orlando and Tommy’s niece lived in our neighborhood. The situation was not a good one. Tommy was not allowed in his niece’s house. She made him sleep outside in a tool shed. He wasn’t allowed to shower or use the restroom in her house either. She also did not feed Tom. Pretty much, Tommy was homeless and alone. Tommy would walk around the neighborhood begging for food. My mother would make him bologna sandwiches. Once my dad realized what the situation was he and my mom started taking care of Tommy. When they decided to move to Sanibel they didn’t want to leave Tommy behind. I’m not sure how they convinced his niece to let him go with us but they did and, in 1980 my family moved to Sanibel and Tommy moved with us. Since then Tommy has lived with my parents. My parents cared for and loved Tommy as much as cared for and loved all of their other children. Family vacations, family pictures, holidays, everything we did, included Tom. When they moved to the Island my parents took a job managing Blind Pass Cottages and Marina. Tommy would walk around the property and collect coconuts. He made himself a little roadside stand and he would sell the coconuts. Returning guests and residents started calling him “Coconut Tom.” Tommy worked at the very first Lazy Flamingo washing dishes. I’m sure he wasn’t the best employee but everyone loved having Tommy around. In 1982 Jim started working as a fishing guide and Tommy became his first mate. Tommy enjoyed working on the boat with Jim. They were a team! Tommy also loved fishing tournaments. Mostly he enjoyed the parties and trophies that went along with the tournaments. Tommy worked with Jim on the boat until just a few years ago. Then he “retired” and spent his days at home with Dall. He loved Elvis Presley. He spent his days listening Elvis on his stereo and signing along while he made his potholders. He liked to work outside too. He had his own little tractor and would drive around the yard picking up sticks or raking a little. Tommy was born with Down’s syndrome and as the years went on he developed dementia. He also had a heart condition called aortic stenosis. In October 2012 the doctor’s told us that his heart condition was progressing and they gave him 6 months to a year. So, we threw him a party! He loved parties. I hired an Elvis impersonator and he brought Tommy up on stage with him. Tommy danced and sang and had a wonderful time. It was so great because Tommy’s dementia was really bad. My parents were afraid he wouldn’t know what was going on. I always tell my parents it was a miracle. God gave us one more day with the Tom we all remembered. On Friday, February 22, 2013 at 3:05 p.m. Tommy passed away. My mother and my sister, Tracy, were with him. They held his hand and told him they loved him. Tommy was a good man. He was always happy and he loved meeting people. His life’s accomplishments may not seem that great but the impact he had on my family and everyone he met was monumental. Since his passing people say things like, “Your family gave him a great life.” or “He was lucky you’re parents found him.” Bu the truth is Tommy that we are the lucky ones! We are so very lucky that Tom found us! We are all much better people for having known and loved him. Thank-you so much for this! It will mean the world to my mom and dad. They want everyone to know how much they loved Tommy and how important he was. No one should be discarded the way Tommy was. Especially people born with Down’s syndrome. These people aren’t insignificant burdens, they are God’s treasures and they should be loved and cherished. Trust me what you get in return is far greater than what you have to put in. Thanks Again, Amy (Burnsed) McKay

VICTOR MAYRON FORMALLY OF THE MUCKY DUCK: ” TOMMY WAS BLESSED WITH THE BURNSED FAMILY WHO PROVIDED HIM A WONDERFUL LIFE. TOMMY LOVED EVERYBODY. HIS SMILING FACE AND JOY OF LIFE AND THE HAPPINESS IN HIS HEART WAS VERY MUCH PROJECTED. I AM HONORED TO HAVE KNOWN HIM. HE WAS WONDERFUL!”

CAPT. JIMMY BURNSED/BROTHER: “I AM PROUD OF MY FAMILY AND HAD MANY WONDERFUL TIMES WITH TOMMY. HE MADE EVERYONE LAUGH AND SMILE. HE WAS ALWAYS A PLEASURE TO BE AROUND. HE CHANGED MANY PEOPLES LIVES. HIS JOY OF LIFE WAS AMAZING AND INSPIRING. HE LOVED TO FISH. THE FUNNIEST THING IS THAT HE REALLY HELPED MY DAD WIN MAY FISHING TOURNAMENTS. HE WILL NEVER BE FORGOT AND WHEN I THINK OF HIM, I SMILE. “
